It's now, who know what time, but we are getting close to Venice. I am tired. I did not get much sleep last night on the plane. It was really hard to sleep sitting up. Liz got plenty of sleep, I think, at least more than me. I am hoping that once we are on the ground, get bags, customs, and all of that, maybe I can get a nap in. It depends on whether or not they let us have the room right away because it will be the morning when we get there. We also flew over the French Alps as well in the night.
(8:20 a.m.) - Venice Time
We have landed, luckily, I had a cup of coffee to keep going. We got off the plane and went through customs really quick. I mean, really quick! They just stamped everyone in line. Then, we needed to get some Euros. We took most of our American money to convert, but the airport is the biggest ripoff. I had $75 cash converted after all of the fees, it was only €35. That sucks!
Our bags did arrive with us and we grabbed them quickly and hailed a taxi. This is where the broken English came into play. The driver didn't speak much, but I had the name and the address of the hotel written down and he said it would be about €25. Pretty reasonable. We dropped our bags at the hotel because it's only 9:00 a.m. and we go to the near by train station and bought about €300 more Euros.
Then, the nice book that Liz's mother bought for us on Venice is sitting on the floor of our house in Wisconsin and not with us. So, we bought a new map for €5. We decided to take the train to Venice. It was only €1 one way per person, super cheap! And a train left every five minutes. So, for €4, we went round trip from Mestre to Venice. Plus, no one ever checked out tickets, so we might use the same tickets tomorrow.
(10:00 a.m.) - Venice Time
We got off the train in Venice, which put us at the near most northwest corner of the city. We really didn't have a plan. Just to spend enough time in the city, so we could check into the hotel. So, we walked through the city, making sure we did not get lost.

We, eventually, landed at a small cafe called the Marcus Bar. We ordered lunch, Liz had a native lemon soda and I had aqua naturale or bottled water. We also ordered a marninara pizze or pizza with cheese. it was delicious and super cheap again. The lemon soda was €3, €2 water, and a €5 pizza. Only €10 with tip.

After leaving lunch, we kept wandering and visiting a few churches. We also picked up another bottle of water from a non-tourist shop because it was only €1 for 1,5 L bottle. We, then, decided to return to Mestre via trains. The trains here are pretty clean, but a guy did puke in a bag on the train ride back. It was kinda random, but at least, he had a bag.
(12:30 p.m.) - Venice Time
Checked in! It's a small room, but all the rooms are small in Europe. It does, however, have a private bathroom. I did my usual shower and shave and now it's 2:00 p.m. and time to get a nap in before dinner.

(5:00 p.m.) - Venice Time
We took a three hour nap in the hotel. It was good since we were going low on sleep. I barely got my last entry into this journal done before I passed out from exhaustion. We woke up and went to a quick Italian fast food place. We had kabob's which is shaved meat with sauces and veggies wrapped in a tortilla. They were only €4 euros each. I also just figured out I was writing the symbol for the Euro wrong, but now I have it right (and fixed on the computer).
So, we had 2 kabobs and I also had a German beer and Liz had a Danish beer, they were both only €2 euros, so dinner was only €12. Still cheap! Tomorrow, we are going to spend the day walking around Venice. Tonight, we watched some Italian TV which is really funny. Time to sleep at 8:00 p.m.
