Happy 4th of July! This is the first 4th of July I haven't been in the country for in at least a decade. It's a good thing we mostly celebrate confined on the boat since most of the world hates the U.S.A. But, we had to get up early any way to catch a bus to the national park Krka (pronounced Keer-Kaa).
We were tethered in the harbor of Split, Croatia as in, "Honey, can we split the bill because I am a poor videographer and don't make jack?" The boat couldn't go ashore next to the dock, we all had to take a boat off the boat, does that make sense? And big boat carries all of the little boats with it. It's like the big boat gives birth to little boats to take all of the people away. So, we had to meet in the 42nd Street Theater around 8:00 a.m. Still, meeting this early didn't make things happen any quicker because it still took another hour for us to get off the boat. Then, another 20 minutes to get on the tour bus.
Keep in mind, it was also about hour and half drive from the dock to the park. So, by the time we got to the park it was almost 10:40 a.m. The bus ride to the park was long, but tour guide kept it interesting by telling us a brief history of Croatia and a lot of facts about the country. Did you know that a top job in Croatia will only bag you about 750 Euros or 1,100 dollars a month? Hey, it's okay, the whole country is so goddamn poor and everything is so cheap that's like being a millionaire in America. The Kuna is their currency and at current rates it's about 7 Kunas for every 1 Euro. And they take Euros all over the places because it is worth so much more.
It was kind of like when I was in Italy in the mid 90's and tehy would always take American dollars over the Italian Lira. Mostly because the Lira was like 6,500,000 Liras to 1 Dollar, but the Euro fixed that for the Italians. Lucky Italians! They either smell like garlic or body odor. And no, that hasn't changed in Europe at all since I was last here, people don't bathe and they need to in hot and humid climates. That's all I am going to say.
Back to the park at hand, the tour guide took as into the park where we could stay with her, or go out on our own. Liz and decided to go out on our own because the tour guide would have been long and boring, plus we only had about 2 hours of free time in the park. The park itself is quite amazing sitting in a valley of canons with a river running though it. That river makes up the over 70 waterfalls around the park. I can't give much of a description of them, I will let the pictures speak for themselves, but it was an amazing place.

Especially, when you saw the scenery out to the park on the bus. The landscape of Croatia is dry, rocky, and mostly dead except for some unattractive bushes. Kind of like the Handford Nuclear Reservation in Washington State. But, the park was so green and full of life from the river. Many kinds of birds, bugs, and reptiles. After about an hour long hike on the trails, Liz and I landed at some restraurants where we grabbed some Croatian beer to cool down. Two beers only ran us about 5 Euros and they were really really strong!
